Economy Loosens its Grip on US Quinceañera Celebrations
Los Angeles, CA --April 12, 2010-- Now entering its fifth year, El Clasificado received a maximum-capacity crowd to the seventh Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show on Sunday, April 11. Close to 2,000 Latina teens and their families gathered to browse the 60 exhibitors of essential Quinceañera party planning services and products.
Dozens of vendors at Montebello’s Quiet Cannon were challenged to keep up with the questions galore about their showcases, such as special discounts off the $3,000-price tags on the more lavish dresses, the best days to rent the spacious Hummer limousines in order to score a significant markdown, tips to make hair and makeup styles last longer, and more.
An elaborate coming-of-age ritual for Hispanic girls on their 15th birthdays, the cultural ties of the Quinceañera are so deep-seated that an historic economic recession itself has not extinguished the extravagant tradition which, according to experts, runs $8,000 on average for 150 to 200 guests.
To cover the cost, many traditional US Quinceañeras today depend on more than a few economic contributors. “I’ve seen more and more Quinceañera families are getting a number of padrinos, up to three in some instances, for the photo and video alone,” said Julio Villacorta of JV’s Photography.
Carmen Rojas, mother of Quinceanera.com Supplement cover girl winners Vanessa and Verenice Galván, affirmed, “in spite of financial difficulties, my brother-in-law is still going ahead with his daughter’s Quinceañera celebration, but with many padrinos, and a much more toned down celebration.”
El Clasificado’s “Quinceanera.com Expoand Fashion Show” sponsored by David’s Bridal and Genesis Bridal dazzled the audience with a 20-dress fashion show. Chocolate fountains, decadent cakes at vendors’ tables, live music, a raffle for an Apple iPad and a Quince gown giveaway courtesy of Genesis Bridal were all highlights at the event. To win the gown, girls have until Wednesday, April 21st to text the word “Quince” to 36638 on their mobile device.
And of course the Quinceanera.com expo and Fashion Show would not be complete without the Quinceanera.com Supplement cover girl contest, which was nabbed by twin sisters Verenice and Vanessa Galván. “We proudly encourage these girls to dream beyond their Quinceanera celebration by including a scholarship tie-in,” said El Clasificado Publisherand CEO Martha de la Torre. The $650 scholarship was sponsored by the Patricia Sturla Academy.
Event sponsors included Verizon Wireless, Aquarium of the Pacific and David’s Bridal. The next Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show will take place on Sunday, October 3 in Ontario.
The event is presented by El Clasificado, a multi-media print, online and grassroots event marketing solutions company that connects buyers and sellers in the Hispanic community through its niche-oriented websites and brands. A verified publication with a weekly circulation of 400,000, El Clasificado print reaches more than 1.5 million Latinos and is distributed in more than 200 cities across Southern California.
