The Los Angeles Business Journal Reveals its annual Top 100 List

Los Angeles, CA --November 18, 2009-- The Los Angeles Business Journal, Los Angeles’ premier business magazine, released its annual list of the city’s 100 fastest-growing private companies last week, among which El Clasificado was ranked #84. This marks the third consecutive year that El Clasificado, a print, digital and experiential media company serving the Los Angeles Spanish-speaking community since 1988, has earned this honor, sharing the spotlight with the likes of BCBG Max Azria Group and American Apparel among others.

The LA Business Journal’s announcement came on the heels of a study by Portada Online, a leading Latino marketing/advertising news source, which found that community oriented publications such as El Clasificado have not been as hard hit by the recession and advertising decline as have large metropolitan dailies. In fact, El Clasificado’s overall growth during the past five years has been 46%, with no decline in revenues despite the recession, just a slowdown in its rate of growth during 2009.

The honor bestowed on El Clasificado by the Los Angeles Business Journal is the result of a unique diversification model recently implemented by the company. “We’ve listened carefully to the needs of our audience and created services and products that they need, and in their language,” noted Martha de la Torre, co-founder and CEO of El Clasificado. “This has allowed us  to successfully implement a host of ‘verticals’ such as such as party planning Quinceanera expos, rock en Español acoustic concerts and Latino small business expos, all of which offer a true value to both our audience and advertisers, and which ultimately are the key to our success.”

El Clasificado’s distinct multiplatform advertising channels include a corresponding website and weekly e-newsletter, in addition to the event or print product. The company’s rapid Internet development has resulted in the latest online offering, Pacoslist.com, a free online business directory in Spanish that offers small businesses opportunities to have microsites in Spanish that can easily be found by Google and other search engines, often on page one and with minimal investment.

El Clasificado’s growth has also been recognized in 2009 by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) as a top 100 Fastest Growing Inner City company, by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the 100 Fastest Growing Companies, and by Inc Magazine as an Inc 5000 Fastest Growing Private Company.

El Clasificado is a Hispanic multi-platform media company that provides a marketplace for Spanish speaking Latinos in grassroots communities. El Clasificado.com receives more than 200,000 unique visitors every month. El Clasificado print is a verified publication with a weekly circulation of 390,000 and is distributed to more than 200 cities in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Ventura and Kern Counties.

The Los Angeles Business Journal is one of Los Angeles’s premier weekly business publications examining the many ways that the L.A. economy operates, and has published the list of 100 Fastest Growing private companies in Los Angeles for 13 years.
